About Kids/Teens Cooking Classes

At Purple Kale Kitchenworks, we think young people deserve solid instruction that gently pushes the boundaries of typical kids cooking classes.  We focus on strong technique, lively interaction, fine-tuned tastings, and personal expression.  New York kids know great food; they are prime for becoming strong, independent cooks. Teens, especially, deserve instruction that lives up to their experiences as eaters in one of the best food cities in the world.

Except for our popular Parent-Teen Knife Skills class, all kids/teens cooking classes are structured like those for adults. We offer customized lessons (ramen, dumplings, fish, pasta making—you name it), for as few as one person and as many as eight. Check out our Custom Cooking Class Packages for more information.

Cooking Parties for Kids 10 - 14

Birthday parties at Purple Kale Kitchenworks are held in our sunny kitchen studio on the second floor of a quirky converted warehouse just south of Industry City in Sunset Park. The party begins as your child’s personalized playlist fills the room and the kids don their aprons (provided). After sipping some lemonade, they head to the work tables where they will learn how to make their own unique Spice Sugars, roll and shape puff pastry, and select and prepare fruit to fill their own tarts. While the tarts bake, they’ll learn how to make a personal pasta sauce from scratch and flavor lemonade with their choice of assorted, house-made syrups.

Into the second hour, the kids will sit to eat. Afterwards, they’ll have time to open presents, if they want, or draw in The Purple Kale Kitchenworks Coloring Book, a one-of-a-kind party favor.
